Our Winemaking Philosophy

Winemaking Philosophy and Style
At our winery, winemaking is both an art and a deep connection to the land we call home. Our philosophy is rooted in a commitment to minimal intervention and an unwavering dedication to expressing the unique terroir of the Walla Walla and Columbia Valley AVAs.

A Celebration of Terroir
We believe that every vineyard has a story to tell. The soils, climate, and topography of the Walla Walla and Columbia Valley regions create a dynamic canvas for our wines. Our goal is to let the land’s distinctive character shine through in every bottle. By sourcing grapes from carefully selected vineyards and treating them with care, we capture the essence of these extraordinary AVAs.

Minimal Intervention, Maximum Integrity
Our approach to winemaking emphasizes a gentle hand. We strive to preserve the integrity of the fruit, allowing its natural flavors and textures to develop without over-manipulation. From fermentation to bottling, every step is designed to maintain balance, complexity, and authenticity.

Intentional Craftsmanship
Every decision in our winemaking process is deliberate. From harvest timing to fermentation techniques and aging regimens, we take intentional steps to craft wines that reflect the best of our vineyards. This thoughtful attention to detail ensures that each wine tells its own story while remaining true to its origins.

Experience Our Wines
We invite you to explore the wines that embody our philosophy. Each sip is a testament to the beauty of our region, the integrity of our process, and the dedication of our team. Thank you for being part of our journey.

Rob Campisi - winemaker

Rob Campisi joined Dunham Cellars in 2008 after making the move from Washington’s Puget Sound region to Walla Walla, never imagining that what began as a new opportunity would become a lifelong career in winemaking.
Rob learned the craft under the guidance of Dunham Cellars’ founding winemaker, Eric Dunham, and esteemed Washington winemaker Dan Wampfler. Beginning as a cellar technician (or “cellar rat,” as they were affectionately known), he steadily worked his way through the ranks, serving as Cellar Master and Assistant Winemaker before being named Winemaker in 2018.
The years spent working alongside Eric helped shape Rob‘s understanding of the Dunham Cellars house style and the philosophy that has defined the winery since its founding. Today, he carries that legacy forward while continuing to evolve the wines through thoughtful vineyard stewardship and the maturation of the winery’s estate vineyards in the Walla Walla Valley. His approach emphasizes balance, elegance, and a genuine expression of site and vintage.
When asked about his favorite wine, Rob‘s answer is always the same: “It changes with the seasons.” For him, the best bottle is one shared around the table with great food, good company, and perhaps a well-made cocktail before dinner.
Outside the winery, Rob enjoys spending time with his wife, Kristy, and their two sons, Koa and Rio, making the most of family life in the Walla Walla Valley.
